About Legacy Land Solutions

Ogle County landowners, cattle operators, and the people behind the work

Rooted in This Ground

Legacy Land Solutions is run by brothers Joseph and Michael Ring. We grew up in and around Oregon, Illinois, operating equipment, working cattle, and managing land from the time we were old enough to be useful. Every type of ground in this area: row crop, rolling river bluff, timber pasture, creek bottom. We have worked it.

Today, we run a cow-calf operation on the same kind of ground we grew up on, raising families and managing pasture, timber, and prairie using regenerative practices. When we walk a client's property, we are not looking at it as a job site. We are looking at it the way we look at our own land: what is the soil doing, what is growing where it should not be, where does the water want to go, what does this land want to become.

That perspective shapes how we work. Most land service operators know how to move dirt. We know what comes after. We manage invasives with an eye toward what grows back. We shape water so it works with the land, not against it. We consult on projects, not just execute them.

Seven-Year Leases Say Something

One of the ways we have grown our own operation is by working with local landowners whose pastures have fallen into disrepair. Because they know us in the community, they have been willing to sign seven- to ten-year leases with us. We clear and rebuild the fence on our dime, and they forgo rent for the first few years, with payments increasing over time. That kind of arrangement only works when there is real trust on both sides.

We mention it because it reflects how we approach client work. We are thinking about what your property looks like in year seven, not just at the end of the job.

How We Think About Land

  • We understand more than dirt

We think like land managers and horticulturalists, not just equipment operators. We look at what is already growing, what role it plays, and how to manage it rather than eliminate it.

  • We build for the long view

Our goal is a property that is a joy to manage, not one that needs to be redone in five years. We set things up right the first time.

  • We treat your land like our own

We run cattle and manage ground of our own. We know what it means to have a stake in the outcome. That mindset comes with us to every client project.

The Brothers Behind the Work

Joseph Ring

Joseph grew up working cattle and managing ground across Ogle County, and still runs his own operation today. He is your first contact at Legacy Land Solutions, the one who walks a property with you, talks through what you're after, and shapes it into a plan. He also has extensive knowledge of NRCS and USDA programs, including EQIP. He builds relationships that fit a small community, choosing what leaves everyone better off down the road over short-term gain.

Michael Ring

Michael has spent his life interacting with the land of Northern IL, where he's run cattle and heavy equipment for decades. In that time, he's managed nearly every kind of ground the region has. That range is what he brings to a client: an eye for what a piece of ground is doing and what it can become, and the resourcefulness to solve whatever a property puts in front of him. Every job is built to hold up for years down the road.
